What is Creative Islington?
Creative Islington is the cultural infrastructure organisation for Islington, established in 2006 by an active group of artists, subsequently supported by the Local Authority Arts Service. Constituted as a Community Interest Company (CIC) with an active Board and a programme of services delivered by a small professional and dedicated staff team.
Our vision is for a sustainable and flourishing creative economy and cultural community that is inclusive, collaborative and well-connected across the capital’s differing neighbourhoods.
Our mission is to represent and promote arts, culture and creative companies in Islington.
We provide a promotional shop window for the cultural and creative sector, and a one stop shop for cultural learning providers and educators.
We provide advocacy, brokerage, information and advice to our members. Through our Education Portal we connect education providers to the creative and cultural sector to access learning and employment opportunities for children and young people. Through Creative Islington online and our ‘live’ events, we help individuals and organisations to promote their work and engage with new sections of their community, using creative and cultural opportunities and events to increase well-being and social cohesion across different communities across London.
We currently have over 1000 members representing Islington’s diverse creative sector and cultural practice – our membership includes creative enterprises, cultural organisations, businesses and educators, as well as individual artists – musicians, performers, writers, designers, film and media practitioners.
We work closely with the Council’s Arts Service and are a core member of the Arts and Education Strategic Advisory Group,(AESAG) actively involved in the development of a new Cultural Education Partnership (CEP)
