What is it?
A brand new company of young actors, aged between 17 and 21, who devise performances for other young people, inspired by the Almeida Theatre’s programme of work.
Who is it? YFTC is made up of 15 Young Friends who are studying drama (or related courses) for either A-Level or at degree level. It is a company of young people who are dedicated to theatre making as either performers, or in other roles, and are interested in pursuing a career in the industry.
When / where do they meet?
Tuesday evenings, plus some Mondays – weekly – from 6.30pm to 9.30pm. In the Almeida Theatre Rehearsal room at 108 Upper Street.
What is their first project?
Inspired by Salima’s story in Ruined (by Lynn Nottage), specifically her brutal kidnapping by soldiers, YFTC will devise a 20 minute performance for year seven students focussing on the theme of responsibility. They will perform this as a curtain raiser for Rex Obano’s new play – The Door Never Closes; and on a minimum of five other occasions in schools.
