Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt has unveiled plans for arts organisations to develop alternative income streams and commissioned Neil MacGregor, Director of the British Museum, to prepare a report on the viability of developing endowments. As part of the government’s bid to increase philanthropic giving, the report will outline the advantages and disadvantages of developing endowments and whether there is a potential for arts institutions to benefit from wider use of them.

Jeremy Hunt said that he wanted “our cultural institutions to have a broad and plural funding base to ensure their continued success over the years ahead". He maintained that the DCMS Strategic Reform Plan is" not about importing wholesale the American model of funding for culture to the UK, or about replacing public investment, but providing a mixed funding model of public, private and lottery revenue, supplemented by box office and commercial activities.” Read the full DCMS Structural Reform Plan by visiting:
